Summary:
The U.S Fish and Wildlife Services have issued a $2,500 reward for any information about the January 18th shooting death of the critically endangered red wolf in North Carolina. This wolf, being at least the tenth member of its species to be illegally shot and killed in the past 14 months. Currently, there is only 120 red wolves in the wild. Red wolves use to roam all of the Southeastern U.S up until the 1960s when they were hunted and killed to protect livestock. The Red Wolf Recovery Program contains about 200 of the wolves in breeding facilities all across the country. These wild wolves are part of a program, in which they are to be captured when they interfere with human activities. Which rarely ever occurs. A rule that passed, allowing people to do night coyote hunting, had resulted in a few red wolf deaths; because of their very similar characteristics. Under the Endangered Species Act, anyone convicted of killing a red wolf is faced with a year in prison as well as a $100,000 fine.

Reflection:
I think this article was very informative. In the article, it mentions a rule that allowed people do to night hunting for coyotes. I think this passage of such a rule allowed so many people to get away with shooting a lot of animals by 'mistake'. Some of which should have been convicted for these felonies, but were able to go free because of their protection under this rule. I think the program where the wild wolves are allowed to roam in their natural habitat is a good idea and should be at least tried for a lot of the other critically endangered animals (except those that are endangered due to human poaching). But animals that were once hunted because of their bothersome nature, and are now less hunted, this program would be a good one to do for all endangered species. Because when they, or if they, were to interfere with any human activities, someone can just call and they will be safely transferred back to the home base. Therefore, without any harm to the species or the individual animal, everyone wins in such a way.
